Two Poems from Tamara Miller

To Mourn a Mountain

I stand with eternal vigil
Over generations through time
Witness to a thousand things
A thousand seasons
Ten thousand changes have come and gone
Ten thousand more will be
But for the scars of humankind's "progress"
What will become of me
Who will express their joy
In a single moment's passing
For the majesty
Held in memory
Standing before a placard
As if before a common tombstone
Lay cut flowers where they once grew
Naturally

A Stone's Throw Away

Born by the fire of desire
A molten mass flowing in dreams
Cooled by the breath of heaven
Manifest among earthly beings
Lofted to infinite heights
Upon forces within, unseen
Exposed by the patience of time
And weathered by seasonless seas
Would it be that I make impression
Etch my story by glacial script
Make my way tumbled across endless miles
Bits and pieces, an uncommon quip
Buried by the dulled generations
Who trodden the most simple of these
A stone's throw away from recognition
Witnessed only by those who 'see'
